“What are you going to do with an Empty Nest?”, my concerned friends asked me when my youngest daughter left for college in 2009.

“I’m going to celebrate! I finally have time for myself.”, I laughed.

I was going to miss my daughter dearly. Empty Play Ground Unsplash CC0I was going to come back to an empty house every day. However, from another perspective, it was also a milestone to celebrate.  I am far from a perfect parent, but I worked hard and did my best any way I could. My daughter turned out alright and now was excitedly heading to her dream school as a reward for years of effort. I patted myself on the back for being part of it 🙂 . Ahead of me were four years of expensive private college tuition, but also abundance of time for myself to explore many of my interests and other aspects of life!

That’s me. I am Joy. I always see the glass half full; what life brings to us, not what we lose.

Five years have passed and I am busier than ever.  Whenever my friends ask how I’ve been, my reply always is: “Busy – 24 hours a day is just not enough!”

This blog is one of my newest adventures in my empty nest! Whenever my daughters would check up on me and hear that my life was still full of adventure and interests, I sensed their relief and happiness for me.

I may have a unique case but I hope this is encouraging to all mothers and fathers around my age who face an empty nest:

Celebrate what you have accomplished, and enjoy what you have now!

Hope my blog brings you a little joy and adventure into your daily life!
